The European Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships start in Skopje, North Macedonia, and will take place from 6-11 December at ****Hotel Continental.
European Rapid Chess Championship 2024 will be the first event on the schedule, taking place on 7-8 December. The Championship will be played according to the Swiss system, in
11 rounds with the time control 15 minutes game + 10 seconds per move starting from the first
move.
The European Blitz Chess Championship 2024 will be played on 9th of December, with 13 rounds, swiss system, and time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment for each move, starting from the move one.
More than 400 players coming from 39 European federations registered for the event and the top seeds are GM David Navara (CZE, 2683) who defends the title of the European Blitz Champion, GM Jaime Santos Latasa (ESP, 2658), GM Alexey Sarana (SRB, 2654) defending the title of the European Rapid Champion, GM Jorden Van Foreest (NED, 2651), GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU, 2631), GM Alexander Motylev (ROU, 2627), and GM Baadur Jobava (GEO, 2624).

The total prize fund of the Championships is 47.000 EUR plus 3.000 EUR in vouchers of Modern Chess. The prize fund of the European Blitz Chess Championship is 12.000 EUR + 1.000 EUR of vouchers for Modern Chess site. The prizes for European Rapid Chess Championship amount to 20.000 EUR + 1.000 EUR of vouchers for Modern Chess site.
The European Individual Fisher Random (chess 960) Chess Championship will be held on 10th of December and will be played according to the Swiss system, in 11 rounds with the time control 10 minutes game + 5 seconds per move starting from the move one. The prize fund for the European Fischer Random Championship will be 15.000 EUR + 1.000 EUR Modern Chess vouchers.
