The Executive Director of the Chess Federation of Russia Alexander Tkachev told TASS about the appeal against the decision of the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission to suspend the membership of the CFR in the International Chess Federation, as well as about the complaint against the Commission and the letter sent by the CFR to the General Assembly:

– We have filed an appeal against the decision of the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission to suspend CFR’s membership in the International Chess Federation for two years, in which we request for the annulment of this decision in its entirety. The CFR strongly believes that the subjective opinion of two members of FIDE’s Ethics and Disciplinary Commission regarding the likelihood of damage to FIDE’s reputation cannot be a sufficient basis for a decision to expel a national federation.

Besides, the CFR submitted for consideration by the FIDE General Assembly a complaint against the decisions of the FIDE Council of February 27 and March 15, 2022, according to which the use of state symbols (flag and anthem) of Russia and Belarus was banned at all international tournaments under the auspices of FIDE, and the national teams of Russia and Belarus were suspended from participation in official FIDE competitions. It is our request to the FIDE General Assembly that these discriminatory decisions be cancelled.

We have also submitted a letter to the General Assembly requesting that the Code of the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission be amended and its powers clearly defined. In the same letter, we raise the issue of reelecting the entire Commission, including the Chairman, for their unsatisfactory performance.
