Registration for amateur tournaments Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2024 starts on Monday, October 30

Monday, October 30 is an important date for chess enthusiasts. This is when the registration starts for amateurs who want to participate in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2024. The tournament will take place from 12 to 28 January 2024 in Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands. Again including all amateur tournaments.

“We are really looking forward to the 86th edition of our great chess tournament,” said tournament director Jeroen van den Berg. “What makes our tournament special is the fact that as an amateur chess player you can play your own tournament so close to the absolute world top players. That makes the ‘Wimbledon of chess’ really different from many other tournaments. Great to welcome everyone again soon.”

Who will succeed Anish Giri?

The field of world top players (the Challengers and the Masters) will be announced no later than the third week of November. Van den Berg: “We are currently still busy inviting the top players and the great emerging top talents. Because that is what the Tata Steel Chess Tournament stands for. This year there will certainly be a record number of ladies participating. We are eager to tell everyone who will compete for the title in the coming edition and who will be the successor of Anish Giri, the winner of 2023.”
